When I first started tying - and long before I knew about the intricate differences between animal fur - there wasn't a cat or dog within a mile of me that was safe!  I clipped every dog that came down our street and stopped for every raod-kill animal I found.  The absolutle best hair for dry flies:  labrador!  Black or yellow.

A hint.
My loving and patient wife has made me a "road-kill kit."
It is a cheap plastic tackle box with the following contents:  lots of assorted sized plastic bags; a pair of kitchen shears (the kind that cut through bone); a cheap knife, a package of handi-wipe to clean my hands and several pairs of latex disposable gloves.  It fits neatly behind the driver's seat.

The only thing she asks in return is that I drive PAST the animal so she doesn't have to watch me separate animal from tail, skin, etec.

Bill,
Great to hear, I've been saving some off my dad's Retriever but haven't tied with it yet.

Sounds like we have a genuine K-9 Dubbing Club amongst our members!

Nothing beats the brushings from a Golden Retriever. Dubbing on the Paw so to speak. Repels water, floats great, can be dyed.
