Eddie and Jon - it was a standard beetle he tied for him. And Josh at 8 is collecting quite a few flies from some good tiers! Taking an 8 year old to shows has its benefits!
I got his book (and found Tony Spezio's name in the list of acknowledgments), and he also demonstrated for me the hand tying of the segmentation, and gave me a sample to play with. Hopefully get some time this week to mess with it - I think that's going to be one of the 2 flies I'll tie for the Michigan Rendezvous Swap....
