The last two Nissan King Cab 4X4's that I have owned got over 20 MPG. While not as fast and smooth as the Dakota, they got decent mileage.
I had a '96 Dodge Ram 1500 with Extended Cab, 4X4, and a 360 engine. I sure hated that around town, but on road trips it averaged about 20.8 mpg. Big Red. Miss him!
