I'm no expert -- but I've had lots of success with a Carey tied with olive
or brown seal fur, fibres from a  pheasant breast feather for the tail --
fine gold wire ribbing and a collar of pheasant breast feather.

I think rainbows in stillwater take it for a dragonfly nymph or a leech.

Its a killer fly.

For seasonal colors you could probably try red or green for Christmas --
tied with lite brite or tinsel bodies -- for Valentines day the fish would
probably appreciate a nice pink color -- and for Easter a nice yellow-bodied
Carey would be appropriate.
