ED,

Thanks for adding the Brown Trout to that list. Brown Trout are not Native to North America... I don't mind catching Brown Trout, but given a Choice I'd rather see the Brown Trout removed from a Drainage & the Native Cutthroat, Redband/Rainbow or Goldens re-introduced.
I Know alot of folks think thats wrong to remove/eradicate Non-native Trout & reintroduce the Native species. There was talk a number of years ago to poison Rock Creek in Montana to eradicate the Brown Trout & Non native Rainbows and re-populate the stream with Native Cutthroats (I believe the sub species for that drainage was/is Yellowstone Cutthroat).  I was in favour of it. My friend, Bill Corum, couldn't see the Logic in doing such a thing. His view was "a Trout is a Trout is a Trout".  Understandable view, but I think we've come along way since the early days.
I work the California Dept of Fish & Game on their Heritage Trout Program.. it works to reintroduce Native Trout species to their ansetral home waters & protect exsisting populations of Native Trout Species as well.
They went into the Head waters of the Truckee River, south of Lake Tahoe heading towards Carson Pass. they eradicated the Brook Trout (actually a CHAR) population & re-established a Population of LAHONTAN CUTTHROAT. in the Stream, the Cutts are doing fine & I will vist that area next month while on my Backpacking trip...
I do enjoy catching Brown Trout. But If the Drainage has Native Trout Species I'd rather be fishing for the Natives... Brown Trout are only Wild Trout, but that is alot better then Stupid & ugly Hatchery Trout..."Salmo Stupidus"....

   my $0.02 on the subject,
         DEAN....
