I hope you got the tail and wing feathers. There is a whole series of winged wet flies that uses woodcock for the wing. and your right, the neck breast and back feathers and the feathers from the wuing joint make beautiful soft hackles

iain

On a recent fishing trip, a buddy of mine had a woodcock run into his windshield and fall in the back of his truck, dead. I took a bunch of feathers from him, as they were a nice mottled color, but rather small...before we buried him on the side of the road.
My question is, are there any patterns out there that call for woodcock? I was thinking the breast feathers would make awesome soft hackles, but are there patterns out there that use woodcock in them?? This is not wood duck...wood cock is a game bird(uplands??) brown in color and a long beak....i think its very wierd looking.
Thanks for all your help everyone!
