Tom, I find that our standard  Foley catheters are siliconized and have much thicker walls than the size 8 French red rubber..but as you are aware, one ties with what is available. We use red rubber size 8's to hold back the adenoids when doing tonsillectomies, so there are always these available for a few cents from the purchasing manager..and one will last a long time.. in fact, until the rubber gets rotten from age.  Small 0 rings work almost as well..just a little thicker. I've also used the tiny rubber bands that those wearing braces use (available in the pharmacy area of Wal-mart) as these tiny tourniquets for deer hair. Joyce
