I have a Graphite II 790 RP which seems to have med-fast action.......I use big clousers and buggers and bass flies for pike and smallies, and they cast just fine, not far though.....I use 1/100 or 1/50 (on slim, light patterns) bead eyes so the flies are relatively light....the leader and tippet turn over the fly beautifully, however.....yea, i should try that bass bug taper stuff, haven't so far....

7 wt. which happens to cast very well inside of 70 ft.

Which Sage ?? and as DonO asked what flies are you
throwing.

For some big Pike and Musky flies, I would need a 9wt to get
the kind of distance you want.

When I bass fish with my 7wt, (like Dean) I use an 8wt line for
the big Bass bugs I throw. (SA Bass Bug Taper).

I am a pretty decent caster, but tossing large flies over 70 feet on a
regular
basis requires really good timing, a good double haul, very good front and
and back stops and a fast action rod. A sage LL or SP would not cut it,
an RPL+ or RPLXi would.
