Well the heat finally broke. One of my fishing buddies
called me last night about fishing this morning. We have not
fished since this hot weather descended upon us. Headed up
to Tucker Shoals here on the White. Rene, you know where
that is, Mike was with me.
It was foggy and overcast. We have been having thunder
showers for the past couple of days. The water was a bit
colored. Left my dock about 8:30. It only takes a few
minuets to get up to Tucker and we were ready to start
fishing.
At my dock, trout were working so I started out with the
green emerger that I posted last week. Caught one nice trout
but things were slow. I decided to go with the Chili Pepper
in the fast water. A couple of casts and I had a football
size cutt bow on the pepper. Next few casts caught a few
more large Rainbows. These trout were in the two pound
class. Did well for about an hour or so and then it slowed
down. Changed over to the green emerger and took a real nice
Cutt bow on it. Worked the rises and hooked a brown about 13
to 14". The fog had lifted by now, it was still overcast.
Looked like the sky would open any minuet. It really slowed
down by now and I went back to the Chili Pepper. First cast
with it in the calmer water yielded a nice bow about 13".
All the trout were fat and had a thick girth. They had been
in the river a good while. Things finally slowed down enough
to think about heading back. Mike had to meet his wife to go
the the grand daughters birthday party. Headed back to the
dock. On the way in I stopped and asked three guys in a
canoe if they wanted to race. They had kidded with us up at
the Shoals. By that time we were across from my dock. Got
back in the house at 12:15. Mike caught about 15 trout using
several of his tyes. I caught 14 trout, all were released. I
have to tell this on Mike. I looked up and saw his rod about
bent in two. He was into the backing. I started up river
towards him asking if he needed some help, he was not able
to turn the fish. As I got closer to Mike the trout turned
and headed straight for him. If you wanted to see someone
crank fast, that was the time to see it. The fish then
headed back out to the fast water and swung around and back
to Mike. By that time, I was close enough to net the fish.
After a few more runs I was able to get the net under the
Rainbow. A beautiful colored bow af about 1 1/2 pounds
hooked at the base of the dorsal fin. That made it feel like
a monster.
Great morning for both of us.
