Hi guys, i use Danville 6/0 for almost everything, in general that is. I use primrose for my working thread on Salmon flies and then switch over to whatever color head i will want. Sometimes i use Uni-thread 8/0. For trout flies the Danville 6/0 is fine, unless maybe for real small patterns, then i go to 8/0. I haven't tied salt water flies in years, and i very rarely work with deer/elk/karabou.etc. hair except for muddlers, and caddis patterns. The Gudebrod is very nice, the 10/0. I'm tying more and more salmon flies now. That's what i see myself doing more and more and more, and for those Danville 6/0 is fine. All you need to do is falten it when nessessary, tag area, body area also if your using floss, and heads. My favorite color is Claret. It has sort of become my flagship color. I'm also working on using more than one color on a head. Sometimes putting two stripes on a head. I know that some salmon fly tyers use unwaxed thread for their heads, in order to get the cement/Sally's whatever to set well. I may try that once i run out of waxed, but that might take a decade or two, lol. I think i've tried every brand/type cement there is and i do like Sally's for salmon flies. First coat is, with nylon, second coat is, extra shinny top coat. Also there are several finger nail polish brands that sell those glitter colors which are nice too.
