Maybe they were sending the bad Mustad hooks to California and the good ones to Utah...<grin>.

Most of the local shops carry Mustad, and a our outdoors mega store, "Sportsman's Warehouse" has a very large selection. A typical box of 50 hooks sells between $1.99 to $2.99 and the "premium" Mustad hooks come in two to three dollars more. By contrast, Daiichi hooks sell for $3.95 for a package of 25, so savings can be substantial.

I didn't detect any ill will in your message, only the desire to make sure you were really understood.

Thanks for the offer to snag some of those hooks, but I am pretty loaded right now. I've started my winter tying (trying to whip out at least 10 a day), and have recently stocked up with hooks.

Talk to you later,

Tom

 TOM,
It's O.K..... no hard feelings. It's interesting that you can find Mustad fly Tying hooks in your local fly shops... out here in So Cal, I know of only one fly shop that sells Mustad...Marriott's, and even their selection is slim... I guess So Cal tyers really don't care for them that much nowadays or the shops just don't care to carry too many brands. The only time I've seen any at my Shop was on the Clearance table. Wayne, the Owner, had aqquired old stock from a defunct shop & offered them. I bought up the "Antique " Mustad hooks... for my Collection... pretty sweet getting somemore "Historical Hooks" in my collection....
I think there might be afew Mustad boxes left...would you be interested???

I meant no Ill Will towards you in my comments.. just thought some of the Newer Tyers might like to know how it is that nowadays they have soo many Hook Companies to choose from....

 Take Care,
 DEAN....

Words, words, words... "bashing" was a little loaded, I guess. I
just pulled it out of the air to sum up the discussion, which as you
aptly stated was people relating their (mostly) negative experiences
with Mustad hooks in the recent past. I didn't mean to imply that the
discussion was irrational, unfair or biased.

I'm just cheap by nature, and always look for a bargain, and around
here that usually means the original Mustad hooks. But if I can get
better quality AND the bargain, even better! Most of my purchases from
Line's end have been discounted Dai-Riki hooks: in fact, I have 32 of
their nifty 50 hook cases neatly lined up in my hook bin as we speak...
