Byard,

I don't find the flat wing feathers on Tom's site. Are the flat wings comparable to the American Hackle series or are these a special breed?

Rene

Hi Rene...

Deb explained the flatwings pretty well. Basically they are larger sized rooster saddles. Probably sized 12 and larger that lend themselves well to tying the flatwing streamers. They also work well for bugger hackle and for tying larger dry flies. Most saddle capes seldom have hackle sized larger than 14 so these fill that gap. They certainly aren't as full as a Silver grade normal saddle...so they are being divided amongst only eight folks instead of twelve. I don't really know if they come from the Whiting or Hebert/Miner line of birds, but I suspect they belong to the Whiting breed as there are a bunch of badgers.

Hope that helps...byard
