Bill Yes .... Whiting has released his own line of flatwing capes. Flatwings can be used for salt and freshwater flies. As Byard pointed out they can also be used for bugger hackle and large dry flies, just like you could use Ken Abrames capes for these purposes. Whiting does supply Ken with his flatwing capes which Kenny dyes himself. They are a nice compliment to his capes. I am still confused. Is this Kenny Abrams style flatwing feathers or something else? The term flatwing is very general and could apply to many style salt and freshwater. What is Byard offering? -----Original Message----- From: Deborah Duran [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 4:37 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [VFB] Co-Op Swap: Flat Wing Hackle question? Rene I just got off the phone with Byard .... He said the best way he would describe these is dry fly hackle size 10 and up. They are not as full of capes though as the Whiting dry fly capes. That's why there are fewer swappers in the flatwings. A lot of these are Badger capes dyed so they have some webbiness that works well for flatwings.
