They want your bank account number. to buy or sell on ebay they now
require in addition to a credit card a bank account.Opened a bank
account just to have a number for them $10.00. you have the option of
paying by credit card or debit your bank account. Selected credit card
two times. Both times they tried to debit the bank account. two $20
charges for lack of funds. Called PAY Pal they can not do a change to
the credit card until they submit the bill two more times to the bank!!!
Then it will default to the credit card account $120 in charges unless i
allow them access to the account. Was very careful the second time to
insure that I specified pay by credit card, still they went to the bank
account. They have a number but they will never be more than the min
amount in it. after you reach a specified amount you can not buy or sell
on ebay without a bank account number. they call it being verified. I
call it BS!

Gary...

PayPal is another money maker that eBay jumped on. Huge amounts of money are transferred on an ongoing and delayed basis. Money market interest earned plus extravagant fees charged to merchants put piles of money into their pockets. Their payment screen can be quite confusing in that they do try to default you to bank account debits...they cost them less than credit card transactions...hence larger profits.

I accept PayPal payments at Line's End only because so many people prefer that payment method. Folks seem to show less concern about giving PP their credit card info than to give it to a company like mine that they may not have done business with in the past. I would love to bail out on PP, as their fees are close to double what I pay to my MC, Visa, Discover processor...but because of PP's popularity I hesitate.

PP account verification is actually an important aspect of PPs structure in that it is one more assurance of reliability for both buyer and seller. Although I've never been burned, I always give pause when asked to accept funds from an unverified user...especially from those overseas.

My suggestion for you is to immediately report your credit card as lost or stolen so your bank will issue a new one and PP will not have that new account number. After that you can cancel the bank account that you opened for PP purposes and then you can tell PP to go pound sand...;^)

Good luck...let us all know how you make out.
