You can also use the magnetic core of speakers. Big woofers have mighty bit magnets and really strong too. Don't get your watch close to one.

They aren't all that powerful.  I've harvested some really powerful small
magnets from dead computer hard drives (you thought I was going to say dead

Maybe your local computer dealer could save some dead hard drives for you.
The old ones were held together with screws.  Some of the newer ones are
swaged and/or spot welded together, which could make getting to the magents
a little more challenging.
