John,
I wondered about that myself after I posted the fix for a plastic ferrule. If it is a metal ferrule, it can be easily fixed with a three jaw chuck like the type used on a drill motor. It has to be at least a 1/2" key type chuck .
Insert the female in the chuck being careful not to get the welt in the jaws. Get the welt all the way into the chuck past the end of the jaws. Tighten the jaws some. Turn the ferrule a little and tighten the jaws again. Check the fit and keep doing this till you get a good fit. It is easier than replacing the ferrule.

Richard,
Is your 8'-6" fly rod made with the old style metal ferrel.
I have a few of these that are no good to me any more if you can
use them. Send me a reply email if you can use them.

I have a two piece 8' 6" 6 wt that has sentimental vlaue to
me. The problem is that the bottom part of the rod is a
little to small to fill the top part of the ferrel.
Is there some way to fix this. If I cast very long with this
the two pieces come apart. come apart. The rod belonged to a
good friend who died and willed it to me.
I know superglue would do it, but then I would not get the rod
apart.
