I forgot to mention the fly we both were using in the first post. It was the Chili Pepper I also did not mention that Dean had two big carp on but did not land either one.
Report 2
My son came to visit so we took him along with us to the Creek. Dean had a friend that was visiting him so he went along too.
Sunday morning was a beautiful bright morning when it started out. Got a call from Dean wanting to know if I was going to the Creek again. Told him to come by and we would all go. The Creek is about 20 minuets away, we left my house about 10 am. On the way to the Creek it got completely overcast and the wind came up real strong. We almost decided to head back home but went on anyway figuring we could get some fishing in. Things started out slow, Dean and Bob headed up to the hole where Dean was on Saturday. My son and I stayed on the lower part of the creek. I had my son head up to the hole I was fishing on Saturday and he started connecting with the gills. OK here comes the part I don't like. I was casting to the bank when I noticed movement in the water. The movement turned to be a two + foot snake with markings like a copperhead. I did not take time to check out the head as it was coming straight for me. I did have my snake gun and took it out. I hate to kill anything that I don't have to. When it did not turn away and was about three feet from me, I dispatched it. Now my day is messed up, I could not concentrate on fishing. My son caught a good number of gills, goggle eyes and a couple of small smallmouths from the hole and decided to move further up the creek just below where Dean and Bob were. I moved to the hole he just left. Started out catching some gills and a smallmouth along with a couple of roaches, then it happened again, another snake. This one kept swimming back and forth, needless to say, my mind was on it instead of catching fish. I stayed with it for a while till there were two snakes swimming around I finally decided to let them have the hole. Moved on up the creek just below my son. He was doing well on the Chili Pepper, I changed over to a peacock soft hackle. I noticed Bob and Dean both had hooked into a couple of nice fish so I reeled in and got up on a gravel bar, sat down and watched them. My back was ready for a rest anyway. I was sitting for a short while when Bob hooked up. He landed a nice smallmouth about 2+ lb.. Then Dean hooked up and landed about a 3 lb carp. Dean hooked up again and landed a larger carp. I heard Dean say, there is another large carp by that big rock. He made a cast and darned if he didn't hook up. That carp was about 5 lb.. Dean had started out with a Chili pepper then changed over to a Water Witch for the carp.
Dean had caught a couple of nice smallmouths and a carp before I headed up that way. I am going to have to fish that hole next time we hit the creek. It may be a while though. It was still overcast when we headed back and the wind was gusting real strong.
Then the storm hit, we had 3" of rain in less than an hour. Checked out the creek this morning, it looked like chocolate syrup and was running over 3' higher than yesterday. It was still coming up.
My son caught over 30 fish, I only landed 12 fish, don't know the total that Dean and Bob caught. Regardless, it was a great time.
BTW, they are running 8 units on the White again today.
