Del,
They were taking the Chili Pepper and the Water Witch. I had never heard of the Water Witch till now. Don't know if it is a local tie or is a published recipe.
It had a black marabou tail, woven black and tan Larva Lace body with a real fluffy hackle thorax, palmered with silver wire. The under body is lead wire and the waste end of the marabou.
It was tied on a about a sz 8, 3 or 4X long hook.

Speaking of Carp on a fly....
I had an infuriating day on the water today. I went to our local tailrace for some 'gill action in the shallows. Boy were they in there!!! Then all of a sudden there was baitfish everywhere, TONS!!!! All the 'gill action stopped and I couldn't get a single one to hit anything.
About an hour later, the bait was still around, and I saw a few gar, but couldn't get them to hit any fly I had, not even a bugger. Did snag a copper head about 5 ft long. I thought about sending it to Tony, but thought better and let the lil guy go.
Now for the infuriating part. Around 3:00, carp started to come into the shallows. I mean they were everywhere. Like a pack of hounds they were tearing up the bottom. Needless to say I had to cast to them. I tried everything from lil #20 spinners to a huge bass worm made of chenille. They wouldn't look at nothing. I fished on bottom, on top, and everywhere in between. The carp were all rooting the bottom and occasionally smashing something on top. after a few hours of not even getting a look, I called it a day.
If I would of had worms, I might of ever tried them :^)
