Olive oil works best for this purpose. Use clear or light colored larva lace or similar hollow tube. Cut off about an 8-10" length, insert one end in olive oil bottle and just suck it up like a straw. Have a clamp of some kind handy (a hackle pliers will work) and as soon as the "straw" is full, clamp off the end of the tube. Quickly tie a knot in the other end. Attach the clamped end first to the fly with your tying thread. Use plenty of turns to get it well secured--you don't want leaks! Then wind the oil-filled lace as a body or ribbing, and again secure the end well with your thread. Clamp, then cut off remaining lace. Using clear lace over a colored thread or Krystal Flash body gives a nice effect. Or using the light tan or olive lace makes a really translucent looking body. Good luck! Janet
