I have never broken a TMC hook, but I have had a batch of mustads that were forged wrong or something, and occasionally one of those would break, but still no real complaints about mustad. That's all I tie with anymore, actually, are mustads and TMC's. Relatively cheap and I like the quality of the hooks.

I was thinking along those lines , but under my breath I was say that The fly store used cheap hooks when they tied up the fly. I have never broken a TMC, or a Gamakatsu hook. I started off using my forceps after one broke I stopped and went to the vice. It could have been the way I was holding them or something. They are all de-barbered now, why do they even put a barb on? Its a pain for me, now when I go buy hooks I look for the 100bl or what ever it is.

Steve, I use pliers to smash my barbs and then a metal file to get rid of anything sticking out. Maybe you're applying too much pressure with your vice, or you're bending the hook without realizing it.
