Rats, Joyce, You've let the cat out of the bag! I've been tying with clear substitutes for LL for mucho years. Craft-store spagetti-rope is one, and just plain clear mono is another. I also have some fine, clear Swannundaze left. Like you, I use the underbodies to give shape and color/s and one can accomplish some pretty realistic translucent fly bodies when the final soft cement is allowed to penetrate the body wraps and fill the gaps.
I'll get me some of that Deft PU and try it out. I also use my vinyl and Soft-tex. Dave's Fleximent is another.
