Hi Gang!

It seems that every time I get a fishing trip all set, it either rains cats and dogs, the lakes and streams rise and get chocolate milk muddy or it is much too windy. Yesterday, I took my pontoon boat down from the hangers in my garage and got it all ready to go this morning. Just as I was fixin to slide the pontoon into the bed of my truck this morning, guess what? The bottom fell out again. Mind you now, all this after a 5 inch rain last week, a 6 inch rain the week before and countless other rains since back in February.

Been raining all morning and It's still raining. Went to the post office which is an 8 mile round trip and it rained 1/2" inch while I was gone. Came bace to the house for a breakfast of Kolaches and coffee and then went to get a haircut. It rained another 1/2 " while I was eathing. When I returned from the barbershop, there was an additional inch. Here it is 10:30 in the morning and it's still raining and the rain gauge is now just shy of four inches. We are under a flash flood warning through noon tomorrow.

To give you a better feel for the rain we're having, our average annual rainfall in Waco is 33". In looking at the amounts to date for 2004 and counting what has fallen today, we're at 27". Last year at this same time we'd had only 12.76 "

With nothing else to do, I decided to drive out to the lake this morning to check the boat ramp on the little slough where I use my pontoon boat. The gate keeper informed me that part of the road to my ramp was under water and the lake is still rising, which means that even if it stops raining, I wouldn't be able to get to my ramp for at least a week. He said the new ramp was OK. I told him that I surely didn't want to put my pontoon boat in there and have to row or use my little trolling moter for the 3/4 mile trip around the point and back into my slough, (Reynolds Creek).

So, sports fans, it looks like I've struck out again. Jody's in Oregon visiting her Mom through next Sat. and I was going to fish, fish, fish. The forecast is for rain and thunderstorms through next Thursday! When the rain stops and if it's it's not terribly muddy, I'll take my bass boat out and fish from the deck on it. That'll have to do until I can get into Reynolds Creek again. But for some reason, fly fishing from my bass boat just doesn't bring the enjoyment of my pontoon, but at least I'll be fishing.

I guess I could force myself to sit down and tie some flies and make a good mess and photograph it for Rene's new Mess Swap.

Cheers!
