Rick,
I tie in the tail first, then the wing (usually white calf body hair),
tied in with the tips pointing forward. The wing can be tied in a little
farther forward on the hook than the usual wing position, since you don't
need to leave room it front of it to wind the hackle. Then tie the body,
covering the butt ends of the wing. Next "upright" the wing (post), and
finally attach and wind the hackle horizontally around the post. Tie the
hackle off against the hook, not against the wing.
