A NEWBIE'S THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS ABOUT VFB AND SWAPS... Picture a 12-year old little boy, starting to play guitar and have just learned to play 'Smoke On The Water' (the song every beginner start with). I'm the boy... and the vise is my guitar. Picture the boy sitting in his room playing and in through the door comes Gary Moore (true rock guitar legend) and offers him to be his friend, support (and even dementor). I'm the boy, "playing" my vise... and you guys would be a bunch of Gary Moore's.
Imagine what that boy must have felt... and you will know what I felt (and still feel) when I realized how welcome I was as a member in this exclusive group of people. Now, imagine also what the boy must feel when he gets guitars signed by his legendary friend. When people have sent me materials, they have also sent a few flies in the package (except Don, who sent me over 100!!!)... I don't know what to treasure most. Now, I CAN actually tie some of the flies I get... but they are still signed by my legendary friends. Is the CONFLICT here obvious or is it obvious. In mid September I will get 20 signed stone guitars and in the end of November I will get 25 renegade ones. Guess if I look forward to that! But at the same time I want the calendar frozen so the fly-fishing season won't pass. The idea of swaps must be the best since walking on two legs... but it's really confusing for an angler living up north. (It's unfair too. Time of year makes no difference for the boy I chose as material for comparision.) /Nick
