I have an English Springer Spaniel. --- When we only had one Springer I took her fishing. And I've even caught trout when she was a pup and was swimming in the creek. Now we have two, actually three, since we're boarding my son's while he's off to school. So now they get trips to a lake or river to swim. My dogs are trained too, but three are too many to watch and try to fish at the same time. Wisconsin has a "one foot wet" law for streams that run thru private lands. You can fish as long as you keep one foot in the stream. This is without getting permission from the landowner. Most of us do ask and don't force the issue if we're not welcome. But you can see where bringing a dog along could complicate the whole process. I take them swimming which they love. And I hunt with them which is what they were bred to do and where they really become the dogs I believe they were meant to be. And when I get a chance to fish one of our beatiful streams, I leave the dog(s) at home.
