You can use any thread with the MT; but what you need is thread that easily
splits. UNI nylon 70 Den for instance, Gudebrod 8/0, UTC, or Benecchi thread all
work fine. Regular UNI is lightly bonded and does not split as easily.

polish, now-help Byard!
Murf,
What is the thread that is recommended
when using the Magic Tool? I just purchased one at the beginning of the
summer and really haven't had the chance to really sit down and tie
yet.
Ray;
Byard let me tie with it this summer and told me the name a dozen
times. I can't remember it for my life but I can tell you its
properties. It can be split in two with a bodkin to insert a brace of
cdc or other material you have prepared with the Magic Tool and then spun with
the bobbin to make great bodies. It seemed to be pretty strong and I
remember it to feel synthetic.
I looked for it on Lines End but don't recognize any of the brands listed
as being the thread. So... if you're out there Byard, HELP! I know
Byard can get it quickly for you and it really makes tying with the MT much
easier and with better results than using a dubbing loop. Yes, I've been
using a dubbing loop since I don't have a spool (forgot to ask Byard to bring
me one his following trip) and it is not nearly as easy nor are the results as
nice.
BTW, I love my Magic Tool and am slowly learning all the cool stuff you
can do with it.
