Thanks for your well-considered explanation.   

My heart goes out to your ailing friend and to Denny�s injured son.  I
sincerely hope that their suffering will be as small as possible and recovery
will be maximized.  

It doesn�t offend me that people would turn to their friends for support.  It's
positive and important to ask one's friends for help.  I would more naturally
choose to respond directly to a friend rather than in a public forum, but
perhaps I�m mistaken in that as a general expectation.  

Somehow in the recent discussions about taboo subjects I missed reading about
the exception regarding prayer that you refer to.  It seems like it only takes
the slightest crack of an open door to trigger passionate religious monologues.
 Last time it was someone�s pretty tame joke that lit the fuse.  What does
offend me is that some people will use any opportunity to launch into diatribes
expounding their beliefs.
