I don't tie for money either, and anything I tie at a
show, I give away...we just finished our local
conclave yesterday. We brought in Lefty Kreh to speak.
We ended up losing about $300, but that's ok (we had
a bout $4000 in the treasury profit rom previous
conclaves). We realized we were competing with the
FFF Southern conclave (but Oct 2 was the date we could
get Lefty, so we went ahead). Our attendance was
definitely hurt by the FFF conclave, but also by the
Redfish Cup being moved here from Florida (I
understand why they moved it, I just wish they would
have chosen the 9th instead) and in the LSU football
game on TV in the afternoon...they should have come to
the conclave, LSU stunk it up!). And we didn't even
charge admission! Some people defintely got some
great deals in the silent acution as well. Lefty put
on a great show for us, and we appreciated it. As far
as organizations, I belong to our local club, and CCA.
I don't belong to FFF, since I think the CCA does
more for our area than FFF ever will. I don't belong
to TU for the same reason, I rarely get to go trout
fishing anymore, and I rather support conservation
efforts here (there are NO freshwater troutin
Louisiana, but tons of other attractive targets for a
fly). Our local club, has a membership form for FFF
on our website if people are so inclined to join, but
no requirement of our members to join FFF. But our
October meeting is going to be about drafting some
mimimal bylaws...at the moment the local club has
none, and we defintiely need at least a few things
(I'd like to know how long my term as president is
supposed to last for one thing...). I gues I'm not
all that political, but I am picky about where & what
I send my money to support.
