Yes Austin, I've used two techniques that give good results. The first is with chopped hair and a high-tack wax. This can be a little frustrating and messy but if you're persistent the end product is very good looking. If you look up the Diving Hydropsyche Caddis on the Westfly site, you can see a good application of this technique.
Another good method is to mix just a little rabbit fur with the chopped deer hair. This approach makes it a lot simpler to get the dubbing to hold onto the thread. In fact, this stuff can be spun right onto the thread without wax if you're using a NorVise.
