I think that because it quickly spins your material into a rope, it doesn't allow for as much an opportunity for the fibers to slip out as they might when you spin slowly. I think if Rick tries the method he may solve his problems.

i saw marc do that on the video on flyfishermans website. What is the main purpose of that technique byard? IS all that covered on the dvd? I was able to see kim boal use the tool a couple weeks ago and I really think that I need to tie with it more this winter. I had not given it a fair chance before.

Yes I am spinning it counter clockwise to get it flat and then
splitting it.  I then spin it clockwize to tighten it up.  Maybe I am
loosing i the thread to much.

Rick...

After you place the cdc in your split thread...pinch the thread
tightly just below the material...then spin your bobbin...lots...then
with your thumb and finger nail force the twists up into the section
with the material.
