Thanks for that info. I do just as Eugene Sunday did in Radencich's book. Don't think that the weak spot would be too bad if the fly goes into a frame, as you can control where it will happen. My thoughts are that if it's in the middle of the shank it's protected by the body wraps, and it doesn't receive as much pressure as where you would be tying in the wing. A friend has a ceramics kiln that I need to look into. If the temperature is right, that may work, but like I said, lots to investigate on that idea.


I have half a dozen of Eugene Sunday's hooks, and I'm considering just framing them au naturelle. Something I'll keep in my tying room!

Couldn't make IFTS this year due to work, but I'll be in Somerset in January.
