Tony, there'a a fly tyer/Gillie from Scottland who comes over and tyes at Jim Krul's Fly Fishing University Show each year, and he's famous for his Pot Belly Pig fly, LMAO. He gives classes on how to tye it "even." (Remember ole' Snagglepuss?) I'll try to remember his name and let you know who he is. He'd be great for the Sowbug. He's a very nice guy and gives great demos/slide shows. The PBP fly is a salmon fly actually. Maybe he'd like to make the Sowbug someday????? mark

Richard,
I have to use a fast setting epoxy for the Epoxy Minnows I tie. The under body is wrapped with different materials and then the whole body is coated with Epoxy, The Epoxy is really the body as it is shaped like the minnow. The Epoxy is put on the under body real heavy and the fly is shaped by turning the jaws with a rotary vise. You control the shape by the speed or how much you hesitate when turning. The Epoxy has to set up in a short time or you will be cranking the vise for a long time. After it sets up and has it's shape, then it is put on the drying wheel. Am making some now for the "Inshore" Swap.
The 30 minuet epoxy will not do at all. Tried it only once, the minnow looked like a pot bellied pig.

Hello,
I agree the Devcon 5 min does yellow if you keep it in the sunlight. Devcon 30 min 2 part epoxy takes a little longer to set but it does not yellow and will last for many seasons. If you do not have to crank out a lot of flies in a short period if time, and you can take your time the 30 min epoxy should do the job...

The Devcon will eventually turn yellow if exposed to sunlight. I
    went to
an Epoxy sold in the flyshops called Z-POXEY for my "Epoxi
    Minnows". It
don't turn yellow like the Devcon does.It is a five minuet epoxy,
    costs
    a bit more.

2 mix, gets rock solid. Suggestions?
