Yes, I have a clue as to what it is. If it's an adhesive, the likely manufacturer is 3M. If anyone wants to send me a small sample, I still have thousands of industry contacts and might know it on sight. -Murf

George:
I use it, but still haven't found a cheaper source. It's something that
is commercially available, just haven't figured out what it is. A guy who
belongs to my salt water club has figured out but since he's marketing it under
something like "gooey skin" he's not telling what the actual material is.
His stuff is clear, and double sided, you just apply the transfer foil and
create your own sili skin. I know of one other person who knows what it is,
I've got to work on him and see if he'll give up the secret.
If you're real careful with the sili skin, you can get a half dozen to a
dozen flies out of a pack, depending on the size. Another thing is if you do
buy it limit the colors you buy. When I do buy it I just buy the Mother of
Pearl, and sometimes the holographic silver. You can get much better
looking flies using permanent markers on the stuff.
Some possiblilities as to what it might be. One thought is the clear
sticky stuff that when you get credit cards or junk stuff in the mail that holds
the card to the sheet of paper. If that could be found in sheet form, that a
decent subsitute. Also, I've picked up in places like Staples or Office
Depot, a product by Scott called Clear Mounting Squares. Problem is it's in one
inch squares, if it could be had in sheets, it would be a good subsitute.
Murf, you used to deal in office supplies, you ever see anything like I'm
talking about?
Any body else have any ideas as to what it is?
