Really? I've never used them as such, and was reading that they could be used as a nice spey sub... if the fibers are that small, nevermind... thanks, but nevermind... :)
I have been known to tie speys for larger brown trout... but then they're more like huge bulky wet flies...
Tight wraps,
Pete

Pete, never look a gift horse in the mouth. Specially when it comes to
materials. What i was seeing was a traditional spey fly, (which, when "i"
think that, would be on a say size 2 or larger hook) and i couldn't imagine
any feather on a crow having long enough barbs to do the job. That's all.
Blame me for the lack of imagination. I tye a lot of the "huge bulkey wets"
myself. Who knows maybe a crow breast feather say, does have long enoguh
barbs to do the job on say a size 4 ~VBG~. My trouble is i'm somewhat
"fixed" in my thinking of the flies being something for the frame as opposed
to the water/fish. Spey's and such to me, are such art. And i never get to
fish with them enough........so. Get your Crow feathers Bro. Even something
you don't nessessarlily need is something you can bargin with down the road
too. I must have two or three full ring neck pheasent skins already, but i
just got another one today for free. Bird is still in my truck where it's
cold because it's not even skinned out yet. Guy just shot it this morning,
and he happened to come in the shop where i was tying today and i found out
he had it out in his truck.........he he he. He shoots 'em all the time he
says to me.....on a preserve where they raise them for that. He can get
another one tomorrow, he says. HELLO! mark
