It aught to thrive in WY . . . especially in DonO's yard with all the hot wind . . . maybe not, bamboo with flagging wouldn't make a very nice rod.

It has been tried in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and Texas, It will grow but it is not the same. The bamboo used for making bamboo rods comes from a small area in China. It is known as the Tonkin Provence if China. The basmboo is known as Tea Stick Bamboo or Tonkin Cane. This bamboo grows on the windy mountains and from what I understand this is what gives it it'd strength.
