An alternative, which I've used, is to tie on a bit of mono at the eye
of the hook, put the bead on the  mono and then tie the mono down with
the bead on top of the hook.  Be sure to use head cement (I use home
made flexament) to help hold that slippery mono in place. Doing this,
will, of course, mean that when the fly is in the water, it will flip
over with the hook riding up, but so far has not in any way disturbed
my catching/fishing. Good luck. Joyce
