I'm not sure I understand how you're tying the tape on? do you have a pic of
it on a fly? That sounds like it might work well as a great lakes steelhead
pattern...

Haven't used dental floss but I have another odd material for you. Teflon
tape, tie it on the tail end of an egg pattern, when it's wet it looks just
like roe.
