Sucker Spawn is and old central Pennsylvania fly I know that
goes back to more then fifty years and it really works.
The one I tie are unweighted so they dangle under the
water as the naturals eggs , I put some split shot about a foot above the egg
fly. I use a medium yellow color yarn and some that is a very light yellow with
a light orange tint.So when you get a female fish full of eggs I usually can
squeeze a few out to get color samples ,O.K it looks funny to see someone taking
eggs and natural flies in a jar to fine a yarn to match .Well that what we are
all about ,isn't it . Now is you don't have any fresh fish eggs ,when a chicken
eats some grass the yoke is a little darker.A chicken yoke can be a good match.
To test any yarn for color in the store ,when know one looking ,stick the loose
end in our mouth and wet it ,then you may have to go to the front of the store
and use sun light to vision the real color.by using natural light. I been doing
this for years.
.
Hook: size 10--12 hook
Thread: yellow
Yarn , color of natural fish eggs or a chicken egg
yoke.
Cover hook with thread ,enough so when wet the thread doesn't
darken.
Tie the tip of the yarn above the point of the hook.
When you loop the yarn
on the top sides I twist the yarn to put a curl in the yarn to
form a small egg
and place the second one on the other side of the shank ,next
to the first.
Here goes, Two little eggs in the back ,two larger ones in the
middle
and two little eggs in front.Remember they are tied on the top
half of the hook.
