Henk,
The Ekich bobbon is like a snow covered hill and a sled. Too steep for me. LOL

Henk,
You must have an older bobbin then my "old" bobbin. The one I have does not have a bolt, it is quick release and a pleasure to use.

My old bobbins are really old, probably from around 1990. I bought the entire supply at a local flyshop in 1998 or so, where they had been hanging in a rack for as long as I could remember...

You explained the flip-flop like it should be said. It is the spool on the auto hub that might have to be flippid. The old spools I have will not fit the new auto hub and the new spools are too loose on the old auto hub. I have to keep them separated so I don't put the wrong color thread on the spool I don't intend to use. I asked Norm is he might still have any old hubs around, I would be more than glad to buy them. He had none at all. On the three new bobbins I have, the weight of the loaded bobbin will extend the thread at least 14 to 18" before it will stop. I tried the wraps around the legs, still too much thread has to be pulled out to pre load. Keeping the spool pre loaded by not letting the thread retract seems to work the best for me. I have it down pat now and don't worry about it anymore. This does not make it handy to use with a standard vise.

My experiences exactly. I have a number of delrin spools that I had made for the old bobbins at the mechanical workshop at the University when I worked there. They don't fit the new hubs either. I almost ruined one hub trying to get a delrin spool back off again...

Maybe you should check out the Ekich bobbin. The only thing I don't like is, it ain't balanced laterally, so spinning the thread is a pain.

cheers

Henk
