Greenwell is a color. It is like the Gold badger but has black speckling on the tips and barbs. It is seldom seen on the hen side. I would say it is more of a rooster color. We do raise a few in the roosters each year. Not many. Choch-y-bondo is the same but more like a Furnace (brown/red) with the black speckles on the tip and tip ends of the barb. Again, not one we see often. Again, mainly a rooster color.

If I remember correctly it was called for in some English patterns. I suspect they may have come from some family of fighting (barn yard) chickens. Some breeds may product this color more than others.

I came across some patterns that call for greenwell hen. What kind of bird is
this? Where does it come from. Kevin S.
