I've been using them for about 6 years now. Was introduced to them on
the old VFS Chat room by Hans W and Jim Cramer. I'm not mechanically
inclined it always takes me at least two hours to install a door lock, so I'm
don't even attempt to make my own. The ones I've gotten were done by
barter for tying materials, hooks or flies. I prefer the ones constructed
out of tying thread and have enough to last me a couple of years. I've got some
that will turn over a 28 and a couple that will turn over a salt water
fly. If you pick up those made of thread remember you need to treat them
with a floatant or silicone paste or after a bit they absorb water and sink on
you. They seems to be a well kept secret here in SE PA. I've had
some "experienced" fly fishers tell me I'd do a whole lot better if I had a
proper leader. I normally fish mine with 5 or 6 feet of tippet
material.
