I doubt you would have anything to worry about. :)

Deb...a girl like you would be welcome to fish with me anytime....as long as
you don't catch more than I do.....I just couldn't allow a girl to outfish
me...it would be unheard of!!

That's how I started tying flies about 4 years ago now. I joined every swap
I could. I still learn from the swaps and now I learn from my students. :)
Even tying at a show you always get a few observers that will offer advice
to you. Sometimes you get a gem. You never stop learning, someone can
always share a good trick or material with you.
Now I pick up a lot of my tricks and hints from spending time with a few of
the pro-tyers I've met at the shows and on the VFB. If you're ever in the
area of a clave or a show and can spend some time there don't miss it. I
learn more in the off hours around the campfire or the wine glass now. I've
picked up a few friends that will even put up with a girl for a fishing
partner. After three years now they even slip with the jokes and forget I'm
there. VBG ... That took a while.
Warm Regards,
Deb

It all gets easier and better. I have used the swaps as a way to 'force'
myself to try new techniques and styles. Being a beginner, you may try
something new that the others haven't thought about because you are new to
the game. I had some favourable comments regarding one of my flies, the
first I had ever tied using the specific style and I tie like crap!! It is
all about fun and trying new things. I don't think that anyone here would
consider fly swaps an investment (at least not when doing it from
overseas!!), rather it is a way to see new things, ideas and materials. The
only thing to consider is that although tying a dozen flies doesn't sound
like too much work, when you are trying new materials, techniques and decide
to do too many at once(anyone else guilty?? ;) ), it does end up taking A
LOT more time than originally thought. Take it easy and LEARN, and most of
all have a lot of fun.
