Mike: Thanks for those tips... I see what You mean now. I went in there and
shook My rod. VERY FAST action.. I guess that is why I have gotten where I
can cast the whole spool of line all the way to the backing, but the fly
hits the water like an Apollo spacecraft with NO chute LOL... So, in order
to get it to lightly touch the water, and thus not scare the fish away I
need to get a slower action rod??? Am I reading that correctly??? Thanks

Not necessarily. You're simply putting too much power in your forward cast.
If you aim the cast to stop about 10 feet above the water then let it
drop, you'll
have the fly landing as softly as..........pick out your own simile.
And you can do that wtih a slow action or a fast action rod.
