I fully agree.  My dad said the food in London was excellent compared to Stalags IV and VI in 43-45.  Actually, he is a meat and potatoes guy so he probably enjoyed every bite.  As for 54, I'm a mere 50 six days after yours.  Happy birthday early!

Enough with all this knocking British food.
I was born here and have survived  54 years on the 12th March.
 
I have eaten in Paris, New York, Rome and Florida and come to think of it our food is crap, ok keep knocking.
