Chuck,

we wre metricised in '72...

one inch = 25.4 mm approx.

We get imperial and metric stuff here..

Beads come in the following sizes here

2.5mm
3mm
4mm
4.5mm (there are sometimes some in between...s)

3/32 (2.5mm)
1/8 (3mm approx)
5/32 (4mm approx)

generally I use 3 and 4mm beads  (1/8, 5/32s)

Bead head nymphs I tie #14s with 3mm beads,
#12s with 3 or 4mm beads
#10s with 4mm beads..

Hope this is not too confusing,.

Ian: Thanks.. Yeah, i have been using the tapered hole beads.. Maybe I'm
using the wrong sized bead on the wrong sized hook.. I'll adjust both sizes and
see how they do..I normally tie My Chilies on #8's too, but I think the beads
I've been using are only about 2mm... and I have some 1/8" I think it is..
Probably about 5-6 mm???? And they go over the hook eye...So , I'll have to
order some beads between those two sizes and maybe they will slip over the size
8 hooks. Proper Proportions (or judging them)  has always been one of my
weak points in tying...I guess though, since I have only been at it less than a
yr, just takes more "sperience" as we say in Bama..Thanks
again... Chuck
