  You take care of a furled leader and it will last you several seasons.  I still have one of the original leaders I received from Jim Hatch several years ago.  I've others that I've used for two or three years.

This topic caught my attention. I am not usually one to go against the old book. My question is with the furled leaders,, do you only add tippet material? How are they for casting? Do they lay out a piece of 4-5 foot of tippet? I may have to go for one myself to try this out.
