Rene I would make the 9wt if you only make one rod. You're going to be here when the larger blue fish are around as well as some pretty good sized striped bass. Most of the guys I know use a 9 - 10 wt while wading. I don't know anything about the blanks but I thought I would add my 2 cents for the weight. Warm Regards, Deb
