I have beeb i the same situation as you are right now some time ago when i started to build my own rods, i found this article by Mike Connor on Sexyloops : http://www.sexyloops.com/connorsmetre/elasticmodulus.shtml
As Chris sayes, H&H is a good shop with good service, i have some of the blanks that he selles and they are really greate, a lot of my fishing bodyes here in Denmark are useing alle the expancive blanks/rods and when we go fishing and they try my 70$ rod they want to svitch rods :-)

Rene,
From what I understand, "M" pretty much stands for "modulus" - which is
loosely translated to "stiffness". I think that the rod companies misuse
the term. Some "IM6 rods" are not as stiff as others...etc. I think your
choice should be based more on your casting style. I don't believe that
you'll be getting higher quality just by going to an IM7 blank. A better
choice (which I understand that you don't have) is to test the blanks before
hand...
That being said - I've used some stuff from H&H and have really appreciated
their support and service. I am sure that they would be more than happy to
discuss which blank may best suit your casting style (let them know what rod
you currently are using...they can probably match a blank...).
I hope that this helps.
Best regards,
Chris

I would make the 9wt if you only make one rod. You're going to be here
when the larger blue fish are around as well as some pretty good sized
striped bass. Most of the guys I know use a 9 - 10 wt while wading.
I don't know anything about the blanks but I thought I would add my 2 cents
for the weight.

Subject: [VFB] IM 6 / IM 7
Gang,
For the upcomming trip to the striperhead I plan to assemble 2 new rods
(8 wt or/and 9wt). They will be fished in salt for stripers - what a
surprise <G>
Here in Germany I didn't found a good source for materials therefore I
plan to use a kit from Hook and Hackle.
Now the Question. They offer kits (blanks) from IM6 and IM7. I know
these IM 6/7/8/9 is kinda marketing stuff. Has anybody some more
detailed informations? I guess the blanks are from Pac Bay. Is the extra
money for the IM7 worth?
G'night in Europe
Rene
