I use two upright chests, one a 7 drawer and the other a 5 drawer. Also line the bottoms with cedar shavings in each drawer and have never had a problem with bugs getting into the hackle. I also use cedar shavings for pet bedding material because they are good at controlling odor and have some natural insecticidal properties (they kill or repel bugs). cedar shavings smell nice due to the volatile compounds (e.g. aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols) that are given off.

Some folks use moth balls, (paradichlorobenzene), which is one of the two compounds used for moth balls.  The other is napthalene.  However,  I keep my hackle in one of our bedrooms, I don't want the mothball, (paradichlorobenzene), smell permeating the whole house.

The one i found was light brown and I think it cost about $5. My hackle fit great in there. I only have a few packs but it seemed to lay alright. I'm assuming it will be alright when the day comes that I have more than 4 or 5 capes! :) I also like the fact that it's rigid so they will be protected from bumps & it latches.

I had been using plastic shoe boxes for years, but like you, I like these better because they latch.  They're available at a lot of the "big box" stores in addition to *-mart (Meijer, Target, etc.).    However, when I think about how many I'd need to buy to replace all the shoe boxes,  I'll just keep what I have.
