Subject: [VFB] Fishing Report
Folks: I had the most awesome day fly fishing to
date today.. I set my own fly fishing "record" with 75-80 bluegills in only
THREE hours.. and, if I were not catching and releasing, there would have only
been 4-5 that would not have been "keepers"..I went to my favorite watershed
here just two miles from home, where the cities around here get their water,
and started with a Chili Pepper, and caught a cpl, but they just didn't want
it today.. So, I thought "rubber legs", So, i tied on a "gill getter" and same
thing, caught a cpl. Then, i tied on the single foam bodied winged black gnat
fly I had in my box.. BAM, BAM, BAM... They tore that thing up.. And, they
were hanging in fallen trees and bushes and under low hanging trees, so each
time I tangled that fly, since it was the only one I had, I'd have to go over
to the bank, and risk the cotton mouths and get it loose LOL.. Well, then, I
caught a 4-5 inch bluegill.. I had him in and was pulling him up out of the
water, and SPLASH.. a 4-5 pound large mouth bass came up and out of the water
after that bluegill. He almost landed IN my boat.. Scared the heck outta me
too, cause there are three gators in that watershed, and I thought one of
those gotten hold of me LOL.... Anyway, I let em all go, got a few pics, and
it was just me and my Taco Bell dog who LOVES to go in the boat and fish
with her "Daddy"..It was a perfect day too.. Pretty windy, but it was 72
degrees and not a cloud in the sky.. It was as close to a "perfect" fishing
day as I've ever had...Most I'd ever caught with a fly rod in one day had been
about 60 during the Spring spawn, so it kinda shocked me that I beat that
record on the last day of September, but ya never know when the fish are gonna
bite ... Chuck
